Understanding Weight Loss

Lose, lose lose! Reduced fat, no trans fat, sugar free, glucose free, extra protein, baked not fried, fresh ingredients, extra vitamins, extra energy and extra slimming! These are all phrases we see every day in America as our society is obsessed with weight loss.

We feel guilty about our food choices, and the way we exercise (or the lack thereof). Generally it can be in our best interest, as guilt can then drive us to take better care of our bodies but sometimes it can become an obsession.

So what really works to promote healthy weight loss? T.V. infomercials promise a new thigh-master, stair-stepper or all-in-one gym every month. Each of these “groundbreaking” new products offers the same exercises we have been doing for years.

How many times can you re-invent the exercise ball? Yes we know sit ups are good for us. Why don’t we just run in place instead of buying that $5,000 treadmill?

The beauty of losing weight is it doesn’t have to be that complicated. In most cases, the answers are: weight loss, diet and exercise. The oldest rule just might be better than the latest and greatest inventions out there today.

Weight loss programs offer a huge market to pick from. New diet and exercise programs are popping up all over the place claiming to be the quickest and surest way to get slim fast and keep the weight off.

Some popular programs include, The South Beach Diet, Atkins Diet, La Weight Loss, Jenny Craig, and Weight watchers. Many of these programs include their own recipes with a healthy balance of good fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals.

La weight loss recipes include dishes like vegetable ziti bake, sweet and sour chicken, chocolate truffles, and roast turkey. The chocolate truffles are considered one serving of dairy under the plan and include fat free cream cheese, sugar substitutes and unsweetened cocoa powder in the ingredients.

There is also the option, with many weight loss programs, to buy pre-made meals that are completely balanced by nutrition experts. These meals can be pretty costly and are not essential, as soon it will become a habit to choose the foods that are best for your body.

Patience is a virtue when it comes to weight loss, even with a medical weight loss program. Any program that promises fast weight loss results should not be trusted. Weight loss pills are a widely accepte by alternative, but can often compromise your health, cause physical pain as well as frustration when the weight returns after a few months.

It is always wise to consult a doctor before taking any kind of body altering drug. For results though, you must be willing and dedicate to changing your lifestyle.

That includes rearranging your activities so that you don’t drive through to the nearest McDonalds for dinner because you’re too busy or sit in front of the T.V. every evening. You must make sure exercise and healthy food choices are a priority.

If diet and exercise have not been working after a long time of consistent training, there may be a deeper problem. Stress is a cause of many body issues and has been linked to weight gain because of the hormone cortisol. In this event, it might be wise to consult a doctor about specialty treatments, such as lipovite injections.

When you are stressed, many hormones are released into the body, blood flow changes and metabolism shifts to protect it from what it perceives as danger.

If you remain in this stress state for a long period of time, your health begins to be at risk and your body begins to show signs of that unhealthy state, such as weight gain.

You are the best person to assess the changes that need to be made to your lifestyle and the choices that affect your health. Weight loss is a challenge but does not have to be an impossible feat.
